I’m always a little bit terrified and a little bit excited when it comes to long run day in my week. Terrified because I don’t want to run out of energy part way round and excited because I know if I make the distance I’ll feel awesome.
I took a different route to normal as I knew 13.1 miles along familiar roads would be mentally challenging. I like to surprise myself by discovering new places and not knowing how far away I am from things. I ran from Ealing to Chiswick and then down to the Thames Path opposite Barnes. From there I followed the path alongside the river to just beyond Hammersmith and then turned to head back.
Along the way I discovered Chiswick House which turned out to be my little slice of heaven at the end of my run. With 1km to go I had no idea where the nearest shop would be and really wanted a drink. I don’t like to carry bottles when I run – I know, I know – but I did take a gel and that seemed to work well. Having looper Chiswick Park on the way out I suddenly realised I was out on the far side and then managed to get my fastest KM running to the little café in the park after 21.1km on the road.
It was only when I stopped that I realised it was bloody freezing and everyone else was wearing coats and scarves! Lol – oh well. It helped as I got a PB! Half Marathon in 2 hours 30 minutes 😊!
Four weeks until Paris and then I’ll try and blog about other things I swear x
