Project 35 | Day 152

I’ve run many a race now and the one thing I know is that my body can do pretty much anything I tell it to, unless I overheat.

The Nike 10km was set in the cool, fresh Victoria Park in East London. Conditions looked good and there was even a breeze. Then in the line up to the start, out came Mr. Sunshine. It’s okay I told myself, the shade of the trees and the little breeze that picked up would see me through.

Around the 6km mark the heat started to get to me. Lightheaded and burning up, I made the decision to slow down to a walk 😕. After that it was a stop start effort to the end. At that point I lost the 60min pacer and I knew a PB was out of the question.

You can’t win them all.

I think I need to find a summer sport to keep me busy and enter more races in the winter. Either that or hire handsome men to run with me and fan me along the way so I keep my temperature down 😂.
